EUROPE EXPRESS >>>
Following last year’s two-day festival of
European music at the ICA, Trans Europe Express
is set to return to London, at premier live music
venue Cargo on
the 21st and 22nd May 2004.
Joining us for the trip in 2004 will be leading German
producer Patrick Pulsinger’s live ensemble Church
Of Carbon, Norwegian expera-mentalists Xploding Plastix,
Scando-house collective S.U.M.O, Italo-disco don DJ TLR,
Finnish electro wonderkid Bangkok Impact and the UK’s
very own electro-funk pioneers Transparent Sound.
The Trans Europe Festival will see a line-up crossing
all musical borders – from nu-jazz and afro house
to minimal tech-funk, new beat and Italo-disco.
For the second year running, the event will be supported
by our friends at Casio and Jockey Slut as well as The
Finnish, Norwegian and Dutch Institutes. The XFM Flo-motion
show will be lending a helping hand with the DJ talents
of Nick Luscombe.
Visuals and graphics will be provided by Syrup Helsinki
from Finland, the team behind the superb art direction
for last summer’s Koneisto Festival.
The Trans Europe Express party train is back. All aboard! |

Trans Europe
Express 2003 # REPORT #
1. talk about "the message" of
the event
The idea behind Trans Europe Express is simply to promote
the most exciting new DJs and live acts from all over Europe.
We believe that Europe is the best place in the world for
music right now, and while some acts like Royksopp have
crossed over into the mainstream, there is so much talent
in Scandinavia, Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland and
many other countries which people do not yet know. We plan
to help bring these DJs and live acts to a bigger audience,
and of course have a damn good party at the same time!
The TEE events have no musical boundaries, anything we
like we will book - the first events took in everything
from deep house to electro, punk-funk to dub, hip hop to
breaks and much more.

2. trans europe express festival report
3. music, vibes and feel... talk about the artists/DJs
Our first event was a 2 day festival at London's best music
and arts venue the ICA (Institute of Contemporary Arts)
on October 10/11 2003. The festival was the 'club of the
month' in almost every UK magazine and newspaper, and it
was a huge success. As well as a chance for these acts
to play to a UK crowd, it was also a great networking opportunity
for all the artists invovled - a chance for everyone to
meet each other. I think the highlights of the event included
an amazing one man live show from T. Raumschmiere, a lovely
set of deep electro and slow house from Guglielmo Mascio,
crazy Scandinavian sounds from Bjorn Torske, Freddie Cruger
and Ben Horn, punk-funk beats from Switzerland's Headman
and so much more. We also had really impressive appearances
from Red Astaire, Transparent Sound, Solar House, Debasser,
Circus Love, The Glimmer Twins and Daddy Ad. The following
week we did another event at Berns in Stockholm (Sweden)
which was also amazing. The highlight there was definitely
an awesome live set from Denmark's Ben Horn, who totally
rocked the place. For the last few hours of the night I
played back to back with the mighty Bjorn Torske, and we
had a live sax and trumpet player (we didn't know who they
were!) joining us. The atmosphere was electric and it was
one of the best vibes I have ever seen in a club.

4. future of trans europe express, are you going on Tour?
We will be doing another big TEE event in London in April
2004, which will feature some of the highlights of the
last event plus lots of new stuff. We also plan to do TEE
events all over Europe through 2004. We are currently talking
to co-promoters in Copenhagen and Berlin, which will be
our next continental venues (both Spring 2004) and we also
plan to arrange events in Paris, Oslo, Madrid, Barcelona,
Lisbon and in Italy. We're hoping to come and do 2 or 3
events in the same weekend across Italy in 2004, perhaps
in Roma, Milano and at Underground City near Pescara -
the fantastic club where our friend Guglilmo Mascio is
resident DJ. If any other promoters are interested in working
with us they should contact us at
info@transeuropeexpress.org.
We're also looking to present one of the stages at some
of Europe's top music festivals through summer 2004. Then,
after all next year's upcoming European events, we'd love
to take the European sound to other parts of the world
- for example to places like the USA, Japan, Canada, Australia,
etc...

5. music evolution in europe
There is no doubt that Europe is where it's happening right
now. Both myself and the other organizer of TEE (DJ Circus
Love) travel a lot around the continent, and we're both
amazed just how many good DJs and producers there are out
there at the moment. Some countries such as Norway are
getting a lot of press in the UK right now, but I've also
seen DJs that really impressed me in many other countries.
It's great to hear that boring, standard house and techno
is now on the way out, and producers are keeping things
fresh by combining many styles - both electronic and organic.
We plan to help give this music the attention it deserves,
and bring the best DJs and performers to a wider audience..
